

Welcome to the SIGMUM’s second surgical conference!
The SIGMUM Conference of Surgery and Surgical Education 2024 was held on 27th and 28th July at Clinical School Johor Bahru, Monash University Malaysia. The conference was organised by the Surgical Interest Group of Monash University Malaysia (SIGMUM) with Professor Anil Gandhi’s guidance and support. The conference aims to provide a platform for networking and to ignite a passion for surgery.
We were honoured to have prominent and renowned speakers from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. We have successfully hosted delegates from various universities including Manipal University, Newcastle University, AIMST, UTAR, and IMU, Pre-Medical students, Housemen and Medical Officers. A total of 130 individuals attended the conference which was held from 8 AM to 5 PM on 27th July 2024. The conference included various surgical topics, surgical pathways as well as oral and poster presentations.
The Conference was followed by a Post-Congress Suturing Workshop held on 28th July. The workshop was attended by 62 participants who had an opportunity to learn various suturing techniques and practise their skills on chicken breasts. A best suture competition was held and prizes were awarded to four outstanding participants.
In conclusion, this conference was a resounding success, with a strong turnout and smooth execution. It left a positive and lasting impression on both speakers and participants, enhancing their knowledge and passion for surgery.
